All are not of God: The Parable of the Weed

"The kingdom of heaven is like a man who planted good seeds in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and planted weeds among the good seeds" (Matthew 13:24-25).

Jesus uses this story about farming to teach us something important about His Kingdom. He is like a farmer who plants good seeds (His truth) in the world. But when people aren't paying attention, His enemy (Satan) sneaks in and plants harmful weeds among the good plants.

For us as believers, these good seeds are like God's Word taking root in our hearts. When we truly accept His Word, it changes us from the inside out. We become God's children, changed by His truth working in our hearts, not just by following rules.

As Paul reminds us, we're not fighting against other people, but against evil forces. Satan works against God's plans by spreading lies and rebellion. These "weeds" - people who don't truly follow God - grow right next to true believers. They might look the same on the outside, but they don't produce the good things that come from God's Spirit.

Jesus, in His wisdom, doesn't pull out the weeds right away. As Peter tells us, this is because God is patient and wants to give everyone a chance to turn to Him. He allows both good and bad to grow together, giving people time to change their ways before the final harvest.

One day, Jesus will send His angels to separate the good from the bad. As Daniel wrote, the people who follow God will shine like stars, while those who do wrong will face judgment. Those who have been changed by God's Word will join His eternal Kingdom.

A summary of the Jesus' Parable of the Weeds

So what does this mean for us today?

  • Keep God's Word Close: We should value God's Word more than anything else, because it has the power to change us. When we think about it and live by it, it helps us become more like Jesus.
  • Share God's Love with Everyone: Even though we know there are "weeds" among the "wheat," we should still care about everyone. Remember, many people who follow God today once lived in darkness. God's Word can change anyone's heart.
  • Stay Watchful: While we wait for Jesus to return, we should keep doing what's right. Even though good and evil exist together right now, we know that in the end, God's Kingdom will win.

So let's keep going strong, knowing that our work for God matters forever. His truth will win in the end, and His Kingdom will last forever.
