Jehovah Rohi, The Lord My Shepherd

[Psalm 23:1 NKJV]

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

I shall not want.

Not "I shall not have everything I want."

But "I shall not lack anything I need."

David wrote this psalm, the same David who spent years running from Saul, hiding in caves, dodging assassination attempts. The same David who committed adultery, murdered a loyal soldier, and watched his own son try to overthrow him.

He didn't write from a place of perfect circumstances. He wrote from experience: Jehovah Rohi provides.

In the ancient world, shepherds had one job: keep the sheep alive and flourishing.

Find water. Find pasture. Protect from predators. Lead through dangerous terrain.

The sheep's job? Follow.

That's it. Not navigate. Not defend themselves. Not worry about tomorrow's food or tonight's predators. Just follow the shepherd who knows the way.

Jehovah Rohi (יְהוָה רֹעִי) means The LORD is my Shepherd. Not a shepherd among many. Not a distant overseer. My shepherd. Personal. Present. Attentive.

You are not wandering alone. You have a Shepherd.

He leads you to rest when you're exhausted. He restores your soul when you're depleted. He guides you through the valley when everything goes dark. He prepares a table when enemies surround you.

You don't have to figure it all out. You don't have to protect yourself from every threat. You don't have to manufacture peace or provision.

Your job is simpler: Follow.

May the grace of God through Christ be with you.
