Do not love the world or anything in it

I believe It's impossible to truly love God and the things of God and still love the world and the things in the world. The more we love God and the things of God, the less we love the world and the things in it.

1 John 2:15 tells us, "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them." And goes on to tell us the things in the world - he says, they are things our eyes lust after, our flesh lusts after, and things we just want to pride ourselves in in life. All these things are passing away.

This doesn't mean you can't enjoy the beauty of creation or the blessings of life, or even the joy of relationships, No! That's not what's about. It's about where your treasure is and what your heart values most. When your heart is set on God, worldly temptations lose their grip on you.

Think of it like this: your heart is like a garden. Whatever you love is a seed you've received, accepted, and given a place in your heart to show through your actions.

Loving God and the things of God means receiving and accepting His Word and allow it to bear fruit in your life. Jesus said, "If you love me, you will do my commandment". That's what love is. If we love God, His Word will find expression in us.

So, choose your love wisely. Do you love God, or do you love the world so much that God is only a means to getting the things in the world you love? It's our choice to make!
