If you want to achieve anything this year, do away with excuses, laziness and selfishness. They are the greatest enemies of success.
Most failures come from a history of excuses and a lack of perseverance. Excuses in our lives give us permission to settle for less than God's best. It seems we always have an excuse for our shortcomings. We always have something or someone else to blame for our less-than-stellar lot in life. It is never our fault. We continuously brand our insecurities through seemingly justifiable alibis. We just inhale the status quo and exhale the mundane. How can we achieve anything in life?
Also, laziness. You see, when people develop a habit of laziness, they tend to offer unnecessary excuses. They’ll avoid doing something even when it’s their responsibility. Sadly, individuals who act this way have trouble recognizing what they are doing wrong, and they find criticism unreasonable. They even see hard working folks as threats. We may fool ourselves and others, justify our laziness, but God, who sees poor attitudes and careless ways, is not pleased by shoddy efforts. He has prepared work for us to do and expects it to be handled conscientiously.
Lastly, if all you care about is yourself and your family, you will never achieve anything great in this life. Selfish people only think about themselves. Even when they do things for others, they still think about their own glory. They want everyone to know that they did it. They think everything must be about them. They think every good thing must belong to them. In fact, others’ successes, or gifts, or talents, or glory make them very uncomfortable and mostly jealous. Paul said, "Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too." (Philippians 2:4 NLT). Great ideas, great help or assistance, massive support, and God's blessings only fall on those who look out to the interest of others.
If you can put away excuses, laziness and selfishness and pursue everything with diligence, hard work, faith and love, there is nothing you can not achieve this year.
