Come Back Home

Today, let us take a moment to reflect on the story of the lost son, as told by Jesus in Luke 15:17-24. After the son had squandered his inheritance and ended up in a pigpen we read: “When he came to his senses, he said…‘I will…go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned'. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him…the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was lost and is found’” (LUKE 15:17-24 NIV).
This story reminds us that even when we feel lost and alone, God is always waiting for us with open arms. We may have strayed from our path and made mistakes along the way, but God's love and grace are unending.
Just like the prodigal son, we can come to our senses and realize that we have a Father, everything we need at home. And just like the father in the story, God will welcome us back with open arms, regardless of our past mistakes. We do not need to be perfect to receive God's love and forgiveness. We simply need to come to Him with a repentant heart, and He will cover us with His love and grace. He will give us a new robe of righteousness and a ring of sonship, identifying us as His own.
PRAYER: *“o **God my loving Father, thank You for Your word today. Today I ask that when the thought of you wakes in my hearts, let its awakening not be like a startled bird that flies about in fear. Instead, let it be like a child waking from sleep with a heavenly smile. Because You love and count no sin against me because of Christ. Help me to live daily in this understanding of Your love and grace in Jesus name.”*
